Runners high, endorphin buzz, improved self confidence, a way to reduce stress and improved attitude are just some of the psychological benefits of running.

Runners High

That state of euphoria that many runners have had the opportunity to experience can be addictive.  It produces a calm inside like no drug or drink can produce.  While the effects of runners high vary immense

ly for each individual it is mostly described as a pleasant state of mind.

Improving Self confidence

Running gives a person a chance to set goals at all different levels.  A runner new to the sport of running can set a goal to run a 5k race.  A runner who has been running for years can set a goal to run a marathon.  In both cases the runner will have to train hard and work toward the goal.  While running a marathon may take longer to achieve that goal the person can still reach it if determined.  Both runners will have a feeling of empowerment and accomplishment knowing they have built their bodies to be able to handle the distances set forth in there goals.

Running to Reduce Stress

Many runners say that while they are running they are able to work through life's challenges.  The time while running allows runners a time to think or if needed to escape the daily tensions of life.  Long runs are great to clear your mind and allow you to focus either on your run or what ever is on your mind.

If your frustrated try doing some hill repeats or doing some speed work.  Hills and speed work are great ways to get out anger and aggression.
